NHL-Toronto Maple Leafs win draft lottery, get first overall pick

April 30 (Reuters) - The Toronto Maple Leafs landed the first overall selection for the National Hockey League draft on June 24 when they won the weighted draft lottery on Saturday. The Maple Leafs had the best chance of being awarded the first choice at 20 percent because they had the worst record in the league in the recently-completed season. They are expected to select American teenager Auston Matthews. Toronto will pick first overall for the first time since 1985. The Maple Leafs have made the playoffs only once in the past 11 seasons.
