Toronto FC and the LA Galaxy played out an entertaining 2-2 draw at BMO Field Saturday afternoon, as Galaxy phenom Jose Villarreal struck a scissors kick at the death to deny the home side the full three points. Follow GOAL.COM on Twitter
The Galaxy took the lead in the early going and once again, it was Mike Magee scoring for the champs. Marcelo Sarvas played a low cross in from the top of the box and the league's leading scorer was on hand to tap in at the far post.
The home side equalized after a nightmarish sequence from the Galaxy. Leonardo's back pass was weak, and Carlo Cudicini inexplicably decided to come 35 yards off his line. When the Italian came up short, Robert Earnshaw was left with a lofted finish from distance into an open net.
With 30 minutes to play, the Galaxy introduced Landon Donovan for his first appearance on the season, after only rejoining his teammates earlier in the week after his self-imposed hiatus. He had an immediate chance to score, but scuffed his shot right at the goalkeeper.
With 13 minutes to play, two TFC substitutes combined to give their team the lead. Luis Silva got the better of Omar Gonzalez after a series of stepovers, then crossed low for Jonathan Osorio to turn home from close.
It appeared to be the winner but Villarreal would not be denied. TFC defender Darel Russell failed to deal with a lofted cross and instead of heading clear, he headed right into the middle, where the U.S. U-20 star was waiting, as he unleashed a blockbuster scissors kick to ensure the game ended 2-2.
