Texas Tech players upset with Gillispie

Texas Tech players unhappy about how they are treated by head coach Billy Gillispie voiced their concerns to athletic director Kirby Hocutt earlier this week, according to an ESPN.com report.

Meetings initially had been set with the school's compliance department to discuss the amount of hours spent at practice. Following individual meetings, the players met with Hocutt as a group.

Associate athletic director Blayne Beal confirmed to ESPN that the meeting occurred. Beal added that the school learned early Friday that Gillispie was hospitalized in Lubbock, but didn't offer any details on his condition.

Compliance officer Jennifer Brashear declined to comment to ESPN, and Gillispie didn't return a call or a text message.

On the player matter, Hocutt a statement through Beal:

"We are aware and are looking into concerns within the leadership of our men's basketball program. Student-athlete well-being is our top priority and a matter that we take extremely seriously at Texas Tech. Texas Tech is devoting its full resources to look into this matter."

Gillispie went 8-23 overall and 1-17 in the Big 12 during his first season, in 2011.
