TCU held off a late Navy rally for a 47-45 win at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum in the second game of the South Padre (Texas) Invitational.
Brandon Venturini's 3-pointer cut TCU's lead to three with 1:37 left in the game. After a TCU turnover, Navy missed three 3-pointers with a chance to tie before Venturini converted a layup to cut the Horned Frogs' lead to one.
However, Clyde Smith III made 1-of-2 from the free-throw line and Venturini missed another 3-pointer at the buzzer that would have given the Midshipmen the win.
Navy's Worth Smith led all scorers with 14 points, while Venturini had 12 and Tilman Dunbar 10 in a poor shooting night for the Midshipmen, who shot 19-of-51 from the field, including just 4-of-16 from beyond the 3-point arc.
Devonta Abron led TCU with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
Navy took a 26-23 lead over TCU into halftime, shooting 11-of-23 from the field, including 2-of-5 from 3-point range, led by Smith's eight points.
TCU was 9-of-19 from the field at halftime, with Kyan Anderson leading the Horned Frogs with seven points on 3-of-5 shooting, including 1-of-3 from beyond the 3-point arc. He also had four assists.
