Tad Cummins Admits To Wife He Slept With Elizabeth Thomas

The ex-teacher is accused of kidnapping his 15-year-old student Elizabeth Thomas.

Jill Cummins, the wife of ex-teacher Tad Cummins — accused of kidnapping his student Elizabeth Thomas — said he admitted to sleeping with the Tennessee teen. Cummins is under arrest in California after being on the run with 15-year-old Elizabeth for over a month.

In an interview with CBS’ Inside Edition Thursday, Jill revealed the details about her conversation with 50-year-old Cummins after his April 20 arrest .

"I said, 'Well, did you sleep with her?' And he said, 'Yes I did,'" Jill said, in the interview. "And I didn't want any details, but I knew the truth. I just wanted to hear it from him to me."

Jill also said Cummins asked her for forgiveness and said he loved her.

"It was very hard to hear his voice after all this time not knowing if I was going to hear it again," she said. "But he told me he was sorry. He told me he loved me and to please forgive him.”

However, Jill told Inside Edition that she would not “let him hurt me like that again.”

“I of course went into a rage of, ‘Do you know what you've done to me? Do you know what you've done to your girls and your grandchildren?’ He pretty much just over and over said, ‘I'm sorry,’” she said, adding that he continued to call her but she stopped answering.

"I will not let him betray me like that again. I won’t give him the opportunity, ever again," Jill said.

Elizabeth Thomas, a student at Maury County’s Culleoka Unit School where Cummins taught health science, went missing March 13. Tennessee’s law enforcement officials suspected Cummins played a role in her disappearance and issued a warrant against him for kidnapping and having sexual contact with a minor.

The pair was found last week in Northern California’s remote Siskiyou County, where they stayed in a cabin. According to the criminal complaint filed against Cummins, Jill told investigators the former teacher was prescribed Cialis, an erectile dysfunction drug and that he took two refills of the drug before disappearing.

He also reportedly made a hotel reservation in Oklahoma City, where he and Elizabeth were sighted in surveillance footage of a Walmart store March 15.

Among other charges, Cummins faces one federal count of transporting a minor across state lines with the intent to engage in sexual activity. This charge carries a minimum 10 years of prison sentence and a maximum of life imprisonment. On Monday, he appeared in court in Sacramento, California, where a federal judge approved a request to transfer him to Tennessee to face charges.

Elizabeth has been reunited with her family and currently receiving counseling at an undisclosed location. Her family said the teen was having panic attacks and appeared to be jittery.

“You can tell something’s a little different, and I’m not going to press it. I’m just glad to have her back,” Elizabeth’s father Anthony told People magazine Wednesday.

“I have to let the counselors work with her. I’ve got to let them do their job, because I want this to turn out the right way. She’s been through a difficult experience — something you don’t find every day, a very uncommon experience. So I have to sit back and let these professionals do their job and take their recommendations.”
