Detroit Red Wings forward Steve Ott was fined $2,222, the maximum allowed under the collective bargaining agreement, for spearing Boston Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara in the first period of their Saturday game.

Here is the video of Ott, who seemed to get Chara somewhere in the mid-section.

After that play the 6-foot-9 Chara went after Ott and the two got into a shoving match. The two players were given minor penalties for roughing. The Bruins beat the Red Wings 1-0 in a 24-save shutout by goaltender Tuukka Rask.

Ott has carved out quite a career being a pest who often finds himself in the penalty box. In 801 career games Ott has 1,487 penalty minutes. Through six games this season with the Red Wings, Ott has 12 penalty minutes.

Ott was suspended three games for a head-shot of Jordan Leopold in 2008, one game for an eye gouging incident of Travis Moen in 2008 and two games for a hip check of Carlo Colaiacovo in 2009. In 2012, Ott reportedly received a warning for a hit on Anton Lander, but not supplemental discipline.
