The Pittsburgh Steelers signed veteran linebacker Jamaal Westerman as they placed outside linebacker LaMarr Woodley on injured reserve due to a right calf injury.
Woodley missed three games with a strained left calf, then strained the right calf against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday night. Rookie first-round pick Jarvis Jones will start in place of Woodley.
It's been a rough year for Woodley, who has five sacks.
Woodley has dealt with ankle, hamstring and calf injuries since signing a six-year, $61.5 million contract in 2011, missing a dozen games.
"He's been solid, not only this season but over the course of his career," Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said. "But obviously, particularly in recent years, he's had to battle some injuries, unfortunately for him and for us."
