Former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Joey Porter has been hired as a defensive assistant.
He's expected to work with the outside linebackers, his old position.
Porter worked last season at Colorado State, his alma mater.
“We are excited about having Joey back with the Steelers’ family,” coach Mike Tomlin said. “Joey spent a number of years with Pittsburgh as a player, and now he’s back to assist the coaching staff. We look forward to his efforts and contributions.”
A former Steelers third-round draft pick, Porter recorded 721 career tackles, 98 sacks, 25 forced fumbles, 12 interceptions, nine fumble recoveries, three touchdowns and one safety.
He recorded 60 sacks with the Steelers, which ranks fifth in franchise history.
He was selected to four Pro Bowls and was a member of the NFL's All-Decade team in the 2000's.
