Update: Lotulelei (heart) bench pressed 225 pounds 38 times at the Utah pro day Wednesday while adding a 30-inch vertical, a 7.76-second three-cone drill and a 4.65-second 20-yard shuttle, ESPN's Joe Schad reports.
Recommendation: The workout numbers themselves don't matter as much as the fact that Lotulelei had medical clearance to participate in the workout. There's no doubt of what Lotulelei is on the football field, so his numbers can't distract from the fact that he's an exceptionally powerful player with rare combination of explosiveness and leverage on the interior defensive line. The only question he had to answer was regarding the suboptimal performance of his left ventricle that doctors detected at the Combine. That apparently is a non-issue for the time being, though assessments of the situation might not necessarily be uniform among NFL doctors. If he's healthy, in any case, we can't see why Lotulelei wouldn't be the top player in the draft.
