Have you ever seen a field goal attempt bounce off the top of an upright?
Stanford kicker Conrad Ukropina attempted a 45-yard field goal on Stanford’s opening drive of Saturday’s game vs. Notre Dame and it doinked off the top of the left upright. Really. Look at this!
Absolutely incredible. And it’s especially so given that it was such a long field goal attempt. Ukropina might have made that field goal from 60 yards away. If it was straight enough, of course.
We’re also betting he couldn’t do that again if he tried 100 more times from that same spot. Even without a snap or any pressure from rushers.
If you’re wondering if the field goal had gone over the upright, it’s no good. NCAA rules state the ball must go “between” the uprights, which means it must be inside the posts. And as we learned with Indiana’s bowl game vs. Duke, a ball going over the upright is not a reviewable play.
