St. Peter's beats Fairfield 56-55 on buzzer beater

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) -- Desi Washington made a 3-pointer as time expired to lift St. Peter's to a 56-55 victory over Fairfield Wednesday night.

St. Peter's led 53-51 with less than 30 seconds to play but Fairfield took the lead on a technical foul against Washington with 29 seconds left. Sean Grennan made 1 of 2 free throws and followed with a layup 8 seconds later that put Fairfield up 54-53.

Marvin Dominique missed a jumper for St. Peter's with 11 seconds left and the Peacocks fouled to extend the game. Justin Jenkins made the first free throw but missed the second. Dominique rebounded and the Peacocks pushed ahead for Washington's game winner.

Jamel Fields had 13 points for St. Peter's (5-9, 1-4 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference). Trevis Wyche - who assisted Washington's game-winner - added 12.

Jenkins led Fairfield (3-12, 0-5) with 16 points and Marcus Gilbert and Maurice Barrow added 10 each.
