Rumors are circulating that the Spurs might trade LaMarcus Aldridge because he's not happy with the team, but the big man went on the Jim Rome Show Thursday and did his best to put the rumors to rest.
“Yeah, for sure I am,” Aldridge said when asked if he was happy in San Antonio. “We made history last year. They incorporated me into the family and tried to make me one of the big pieces. I'm winning. Of course I'm happy. That's why I don't buy into the rumors. I feel like I do my job here and I feel like I've done everything that they've asked. That's why I haven't bought into the rumors."
As for the trade rumors, Aldridge has heard those too.
“I didn’t buy into it. I haven’t heard anything about it,” Aldridge said. “I talk to Pop [head coach Gregg Popovich] daily, and he always tells me I’m doing great and [I’m] trying to learn new things and trying to be more of a leader, and he’s putting me in positions where I can be more of a leader. So as long as the guys here aren’t saying bad things to me, and all my teammates have said nothing but great things to me. So as long as the guys in my family here aren’t saying bad things, then I’m fine.”
Respected NBA minds such as Zach Lowe, Jackie MacMullan and Jabari Young all reported recently that there was a chance Aldridge would not finish the season with the Spurs. Others have refuted those reports.
There's no way of knowing for sure, but at least we got to hear Aldridge's side.
