The Latest: It’s not often that SMU reaches into South Florida to target recruits, but that’s exactly what the school is doing in its pursuit of 2018 wide receiver Carlos Sandy. Despite having never been to Texas for a visit, Sandy said he’s going to give the school a look long as he evaluates his recruiting options. Rivals.com caught up with him at the recent Miami stop of the Rivals 3-Stripe Camp Series presented by adidas to talk about the Mustangs.

In His Words: “It’s been a few weeks since the offer and Coach Franklin has been talking to me a lot. I can tell that they’re a good passing team and they throw the ball a lot and as a wide receiver that’s something I like. They work hard and I like that, too. It was a little surprising when I got the offer just because they are from Texas. I’m going to give them a serious look because I think I would be a good fit there. Hopefully I can get out for a visit soon.”

Other visits/interest: “I’m going to visit Syracuse soon. I’m also trying to visit Notre Dame and UCF. I think UCF might be the next school to offer me. That’s an offer I would like to get. They’re close to home and that is something that would be a nice option too.”

Rivals Reaction: All of Sandy’s early options are quite a ways from home, putting SMU right in the mix with schools like Syracuse. Obviously Chad Morris has had success recruiting in Florida at past stops, especially at the wide receiver position. So it’s clear the school sees something they like in Sandy. Getting him on campus will be the next big hurdle to clear in the race to land his commitment.
