The San Francisco 49eers signed veteran defensive end Justin Smith to a two-year contract extension on Wednesday that likely will take him to the end of his NFL career.
The final salary numbers were not known, but Smith was scheduled to make $7.5 million in base salary in the final year of his contract.
"Justin's All-Pro contributions on the field, as well as his leadership on and off the field, are integral to our success," general manager Trent Baalke said.
The 33-year-old Smith underwent surgery to repair his partially torn triceps after the 49ers' loss to the Baltimore Ravens in Super Bowl XLVII. He played in 14 regular-season games in 2012 and had 66 tackles, including three sacks.
The Sports Business Journal reported that Smith recently parted with CAA, which represented him, and that he's not currently listed with another agent in the NFL Players' Association database.
