SIU-Edwardsville surprises Eastern Illinois 49-45

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) -- Mark Yelovich scored 13 points, grabbed eight rebounds and SIU-Edwardsville erased a 10-point deficit mid-way through the second half to steal a 49-45 victory from Eastern Illinois on Saturday night.

Tied at 23 during the halftime break, the Panthers opened the second half with a 14-4 run capped off by Morris Woods' jump shot to make it 37-27 with 11:29 to go but SIU-Edwardsville (8-11, 4-5 Ohio Valley) answered with a 22-6 run to end the game.

Woods ended his night with 16 points and six rebounds for Eastern Illinois (6-17, 3-7).

Kris Davis had 11 points, Jerome Jones had 10 points and seven rebounds and SIU-Edwardsville shot only 36.2 percent from the field.

The Cougars were out-rebounded 39-36, outscored in the paint 30-14 and watched the Panthers go 1 for 17 from beyond the arc and still, SIU-Edwardsville was able to pull it out.
