NACOGDOCHES, Texas (AP) -- Desmond Haymon led Stephen F. Austin with 20 points on Thursday night as the Lumberjacks raced past Lamar in the second half to win 85-65 in a Southland Conference opener.
Stephen F. Austin led by two points at the half, and a 21-8 run after intermission put the Lumberjacks up 61-46. Stephen F. Austin (12-2, 1-0) out-boarded Lamar 37-28, only allowing the Cardinals three offensive rebounds in the game.
Both Deshaunt Walker and Nikola Gajic added 16 points as the Lumberjacks extended their winning streak to nine games. The team combined on 31 of 66 shooting (47 percent), and finished with 24 assists and 10 steals.
Amos Wilson led the Cardinals (1-12, 0-1) with 14 points and made 8 of 9 free-throws. Both Nimrod Hilliard and Rhon Mitchell added 13 points each as Lamar shot 22 of 26 from the line (84.6 percent).
