Seneca Wallace tells 49ers he's retiring

Veteran quarterback Seneca Wallace informed the San Francisco 49ers that he plans to retire.

That's why he didn't attend the 49ers' preseason finale against the San Diego Chargers after telling coach Jim Harbaugh of his plans.

“It’s something that was his decision,” Harbaugh told reporters. “He felt strongly about it. I don’t talk people out of that. I’ve never seen it done on game day, but I wish him well.”

Wallace, who has passed for 4,808 career yards, 31 touchdowns and 18 interceptions, wasn't expected to make the 49ers' roster after recently joining the team.

Colt McCoy is the backup to Colin Kaepernick.
