Seattle holds on to edge UC Riverside 69-68

SEATTLE (AP) -- Clarence Trent scored 19 points, including what proved to be the game winner as Seattle held off UC Riverside 69-68 Monday night.

The Highlanders (2-3) forced a turnover with 27 seconds left and set up a last-second shot but they lost track of the clock and Chris Patton forced up an off-balance shot at the buzzer.

Trent's dunk with 2 minutes left put the Red Hawks (3-2) up 69-64 but Riverside countered with layups from Patton at 1:42 and Steven Jones at 1:01 to pull within one.

Seattle was running down the shot clock when Isiah Umipig, who had 17 points, drove into the lane and Jones stole the ball.

Steven Thornton led the Highlanders with 18 points, Patton had 15 and Sam Finley 14. They were 9 of 25 from the 3-point line but only 9 of 16 from the foul line. Seattle hit 17 of 20 free throws.
