Seahawks Select… Draft Picks in the 2017 NFL Draft

As per their typical pattern, the Seattle Seahawks traded down, swapping their 26th pick to the Atlanta Falcons for the 31st pick. Seattle received an additional third and seventh round pick to drop five spots. At this rate, the Seahawks will have every third round pick in this year’s draft. And as I waited to enter the name of their draft pick, they traded down again. The Hawks traded the 31st pick to the San Francisco 49ers for San Francisco’s second and fourth round picks.

It hasn’t just been Seattle that’s been trade-happy. It has been one of the best drafts in quite a while from the entertainment standpoint. Three teams traded up to get their quarterback, the biggest surprise of them being the Chicago Bears moving all the way up to the second pick to take North Carolina’s Mitchell Trubisky.

Equally surprising has been the freefall some of the top expected picks fell. Cornerback Gareon Conley fell all the way to the 24th pick. That of course was due to the allegations of sexual assault that just came out this week. Linebacker Reuben Foster dropped all the way to that 31st pick the Seahawks moved to the 49ers. He was dismissed from the NFL Combine, and tested for a dilute sample. Those two issues cost the young man a lot of money.

Back to the Seahawks’ moves. They managed to add a second, third, fourth, and seventh pick. A few guys they’ve picked up in the past in the third round? Not much; just guys named Russell Wilson and Tyler Lockett. And even later, Kam Chancellor, K.J. Wright, and Richard Sherman. Not much, not at all. Those two trades could add some amazing talent to the Seahawks roster.
