Saint Louis held VCU without a field goal for more than 10 minutes in the first half and cruised to a 76-62 victory over the 24th-ranked Rams, taking over first place in the Atlantic 10.
After a Rob Brandenberg layup with 14:41 to go in the first half gave the Rams (21-6, 9-3 A-10) an 11-8 lead, Saint Louis went on a 17-0 run that spanned nearly eight minutes.
VCU didn't score again until Juvonte Reddic made a free throw with 6:45 to play in the half, and the Rams didn't score from the field until a Treveon Graham jumper with 4:08 left.
The Billikens (20-5, 9-2) led 38-21 at halftime, and VCU never got closer than 11 the rest of the way.
Jordair Jett had 16 points off the bench to lead Saint Louis, with Mike McCall adding 15 and Dwayne Evans 14. The Billikens did an outstanding job against one of the best defenses in the country, turning the ball over just eight times.
Reddic had 19 points and 12 rebounds for the Rams, and Graham added 11 points and 10 boards. Troy Daniels had eight points for VCU, and with two 3-pointers, he tied his school record for the most 3s in a season with 94.
