Alex Rodriguez went 0-for-2 in his first minor-league rehab start on Tuesday night with low-Class A Charleston in the South Atlantic League.
Rodriguez, wprking his way back from January hip surgery, grounded into a double play in his first at-bat and took a called third strike his second time up for the RiverDogs, who drew an overflow crowd for the game.
The New York Yankees third baseman played three innings in the field at his normal position and appeared to have no issues related to the surgery.
After A-Rod was removed from the game, he signed autographs down the right-field line as he exited the field.
The plan for the 38-year-old veteran is to gradually extend his playing time in the minors before he returns to the Yankees sometime after the All-Star break.
