RIO DE JANEIRO — Olympic table tennis is, perhaps, the sport that humbles us the most. For we have played Ping-Pong, and it does not look like this. In the sense that they never knock over their own beer while chasing a loose ball bouncing along the garage floor.
Table tennis is also the sport that’s sneakily the most photogenic at the Olympics, even if it’s in a rather odd way.
Hence, here are 10 times Rio Olympic table tennis was oddly photogenic. Emphasis on the odd:
China’s Li Xiaoxia.
North Korea’s Kim Song I.
Belarus’ Vladimir Samsonov.
Zhang Jike of China
Ukraine’s Tetyana Bilenko
Slovenia’s Bojan Tokic
Japan’s Jun Mizutani
Great Britain’s Paul Drinkhall
Tianwei Feng of Singapore
And of course, at No. 1, your Olympic gold medalist:
Ding Ning of China.
Thank you, Olympic table tennis players, for all that you’ve given us. And please remember to keep your eye or nose or whatever on the ball.
