Right-hander Chris Resop and the Oakland A's agreed to a one-year, $1.35 million deal, avoiding arbitration.
Resop was acquired from the Pittsburgh Pirates in November in exchange for minor league right-hander Zach Thornton. He could be a key member of Oakland's bullpen, particularly with right-hander Jim Miller recently claimed off waivers by the Yankees.
Resop, 30, also provides a little extra experience for a relief corps that featured two rookies, Sean Doolittle and Ryan Cook, prominently last season. Resop has pitched in a combined 137 games the past two seasons. In 2012, he went 1-4 with one save and a 3.91 ERA in 61 appearances. He had a $850,000 salary.
In a seven-year career, Resop has pitched for the Florida Marlins, Los Angeles Angels, Atlanta Braves and Pittsburgh.
