After a solid freshman season for Pitt, running back Rushel Shell is transferring to UCLA.
Numerous media outlets reported Shell's move Monday.
Shell finished with 141 carries for 641 rushing yards and four touchdowns last season, during which he backed up Ray Graham. He added nine receptions for 103 yards.
Only twice did Shell receive more than 13 carries in a game: a 23-carry, 157-yard effort against Virginia Tech on Sept. 15, and a 25-carry, 79-yard day against Ole Miss in the BBVA Compass Bowl.
Shell had an outstanding career at Aliquippa (Pa.) Hopewell High, gaining a state-record 9,078 yards. He was one of the nation's most highly recruited backs before landing at Pitt.
He will be eligible for the 2014, 2015 and 2016 seasons after sitting out this fall.
