Reports: Cowboys' suspended DE Randy Gregory checks into treatment facility
Already suspended for the first four games of the regular season for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy, Dallas Cowboys’ DE Randy Gregory is facing an even longer suspension after another drug test failure, according to an ESPN report.
Gregory was a second-round pick in 2015 who was considered a first-round talent but fell after he failed a drug test for marijuana at the scouting combine (as well as other, nebulous concerns). He has checked into a treatment facility and won’t be reporting to Cowboys training camp, according to ESPN’s Ed Werder.
There’s no indication why Gregory is seeking treatment, but there could be something more than marijuana in play: Ian Rapoport of NFL Network tweeted that “there is real worry” for the 23-year old, as he has “shut out some people close to him.”
Gregory’s suspension could be upped to 10 games (or longer) and Rapoport reports there’s concern he may not play again.
As a rookie last year, Gregory played in 12 games – he missed four to injury – with no starts and zero sacks.
