University of Texas co-offensive coordinator Bryan Harsin will be the next head coach at Arkansas State, according to multiple media reports.
Gus Malzahn led the Red Wolves to a 9-3 record this season, his lone year at Arkansas State, before landing as the head coach at Auburn. Malzahn's predecessor at Arkansas State, also had only one season as the boss in Jonesboro. He led the team to a 10-2 mark before he was hired as the head coach at Mississippi.
Harsin, 35, spent two years in his current position with the Longhorns. The previous 10 years, he was an assistant coach at his alma mater, Boise State. From 2002-06, he was the Broncos' offensive coordinator.
This season, Harsin helped guide a Texas offense that finished 37th overall in the nation, eighth in passing efficiency.
According to the Dallas Morning News, Harsin made $675,000 at Texas this year, while Malzahn reportedly earned $850,000 at Arkansas State.
Harsin was a backup quarterback for Boise State from 1995-99.
