The Philadelphia 76ers have begun their overhaul by hiring Houston Rockets executive Sam Hinkie to be their new general manager, multiple media outlets reported.
Hinkie will replace Tony DiLeo, and Hinkie will have full control of the Sixers' basketball operations. An official announcement is expected in the next few days.
Hinkie had been the Rockets' vice president of basketball operations since 2010.
Other changes are in store for the 76ers. Philadelphia president Rod Thorn is retiring this spring and will become a consultant for the team, and Doug Collins resigned as the team's coach at the end of the regular season.
The 76ers have several important decisions to make this offseason. It starts with the hiring of a new coach and includes formulating a plan for the pending free agency of center Andrew Bynum.
