The Colorado Rockies are expected to designate right-hander Jon Garland for assignment as part of a series of roster moves, according to the Denver Post.
Garland, 33, is 4-6 with a 5.82 ERA in 12 starts. The move is reportedly being made to make room for lefty Jeff Francis, who was scheduled to come off the disabled list Saturday to start against the San Diego Padres.
Francis is 2-3 with a 6.00 ERA in eight starts.
Francis is starting in place of injured Tyler Chatwood, who is likely missing just one start. Francis will technically take Garland's spot in the rotation.
Also, the club is recalling outfielder Tyler Colvin from Class AAA Colorado Springs, but the corresponding roster move is not clear. The Rockies may place outfielder Michael Cuddyer on the disabled list.
Colvin is hitting .293 with nine home runs for the Sky Sox.
