The Boston Red Sox may be interested in trading infielder Kevin Youkilis, and the Dodgers, Phillies and Diamondbacks are among teams showing some interest, CBSSports.com reported Sunday.
Trade talks may be preliminary at this stage, but unless the Red Sox have some more injuries, Boston may end up trading the 33-year-old Youkilis, who is hitting .253 with four homers in 28 games this season.
The Red Sox trade demands may be reduced if a team agrees to pay the more than $9 million remaining on his contract, according to the report.
The emergence of rookie third baseman Will Middlebrooks has made Youkilis expendable. First baseman Adrian Gonzalez has moved to the outfield to make room for Youkilis at first, but when injured outfielders Jacoby Ellsbury and Carl Crawford return, the Red Sox will have trouble finding a spot for Youkilis.
