Boston Red Sox closer Joel Hanrahan will be placed on the disabled list Tuesday due to lingering right hamstring soreness, according to multiple reports.
Hanrahan rested for a few days, but the issue didn't improve.
The 31-year-old saved three of his four chances this season, but has an 11.57 ERA, 2.36 WHIP and five walks 4 2/3 innings. He's also surrendered three home runs.
Set-up man Andrew Bailey will close while Hanrahan is out. The righty serves as the Oakland A's closer from 2009-11, and saved 75 games during that time. He has struck out nine batters in 5 1/3 innings so far this season.
To take Hanrahan's spot on the roster, the Red Sox summoned right-hander Steven Wright from Triple-A Pawtucket.
