The Tampa Bay Rays have acquired relief pitcher Jesse Crain from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for future considerations, ESPN's Buster Olney reported.
According to the report, those considerations will be based on how many games Crain pitches for Tampa Bay. That is an issue because Crain has had shoulder issues that have limited him recently.
The Rays seldom make such moves close to the trade deadline, but Crain could help their bullpen considerably.
In 38 appearances this year, Crain has an ERA of 0.74 ERA with 46 strikeouts and 11 walks in 36 2/3 innings.
He has not appeared in a game since June 29, however, so the Rays are hoping Crain is healthy enough to help. In that last outing, Crain allowed an earned run for the first time since April 12.
