Free-agent catcher A.J. Pierzynski reportedly has agreed to a one-year contract with the Texas Rangers.
The deal hinges on a physical set for Friday, and reported. Terms were not available.
Pierzynski is expected to compete for the starting catcher job with Geovany Soto, who was acquired last July from the Chicago Cubs.
The 35-year-old Pierzynski has played 15 seasons, including the last six with the Chicago White Sox. Last season, he hit .278 with 27 home runs and 77 RBIs. He also has thrown 24 percent of the career base-stealers he has faced.
