The Florida Panthers offered a tryout opportunity to 39-year-old goalie Tim Thomas, TSN reported Tuesday.
Thomas won the Vezina Trophy as the NHL's most outstanding goaltender in 2009 and 2011, and he was an all-star in 2012. But he left the game following the 2011-2012 season and did not play last year.
The Panthers finished with the worst record in the NHL last year and need goaltending.
Thomas is an unrestricted free agent and can sign with any team.
Thomas reportedly wants to be a No. 1 goaltender again, not a backup.
