Mark Mulder, a two-time All-Star who has not pitched since 2008, is trying to make a comeback, reported Tuesday.
Mulder, 36, retired in 2009 after two surgeries on his left shoulder had limited his effectiveness.
In 2008, he pitched just 1 2/3 innings for the St. Louis Cardinals and had a 10.80 earned-run average.
He's been working as an analyst at ESPN since 2011. However, Mulder began thinking about a comeback in October while watching Los Angeles Dodgers reliever Paco Rodriguez on TV. He saw something in Rodriguez's delivery that he could use himself.
According to the report, Mulder said scouts clocked his fastball at 89-90 mph.
He is now hoping he can work out for some clubs and perhaps get an invitation to a spring training camp.
