Baltimore Orioles owner Peter Angelos and manager Buck Showalter have worked out the basic framework of a multiyear contract extension, the Baltimore Sun reported.
Showalter's current contract runs through the 2013 season, but, according to the report, an extension is likely to become official sometime in January.
Showalter and Angelos met several times last week in Baltimore to discuss terms of the deal, and they are expected to finalize the details of a long-term contract after the holidays.
In 2012, Showalter managed the Orioles to their first postseason appearance since 1997.
