The NHL is planning to stage six outdoor games next season in football and baseball stadiums, ESPN.com and TSN reported Tuesday.
The league is finalizing the outdoor schedule, according to ESPN.com, that will start with the previously announced Winter Classic game on Jan. 1, 2014, in Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, Mich., between the Detroit Red Wings and the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Other games are planned for Los Angeles, New York, Chicago and Vancouver. A league announcement is expected in the next two weeks.
The Los Angeles game, which would be the first outdoors in California, would pit the Anaheim Ducks against the Los Angeles on Jan. 25, 2014, in Dodger Stadium.
Two games would be played in Yankee Stadium in the week leading up to Super Bowl XLVIII in New Jersey. The New York Rangers would play the New Jersey Devils on Jan. 26 and the New York Islanders on Jan. 29, according to ESPN.com.
The other outdoor games would involve the Pittsburgh Penguins facing the Chicago Blackhawks on March 1, 2014, in Soldier Field and the Vancouver Canucks playing host to the Ottawa Senators on March 2 at B.C. Place.
