The New York Jets reportedly have complained to the NFL that the New England Patriots' hurry-up offense does not allow the mandated time for defenses to make substitutions.
NFL rules state if the offense makes substitutions, then the defense is allowed to do so. However, Jets officials said that Patriots violated that rule in their victory over the Denver Broncos two weeks ago.
"We have already talked to the league office and Rex (Ryan) will be in the ref's ear about this all game," a member of the Jets' coaching staff told ESPN on Saturday night.
Jets linebacker Calvin Pace said last week the New England offense is "borderline illegal."
"Sometimes when they substitute, you're supposed to be allowed to substitute with them," Jets coach Rex Ryan said Friday. "We'll see about that, but they move at such a quick pace that you have to be alert, and if you have to sub, you have to make your substitution extremely quick."
