Los Angeles Dodgers rookie Yasiel Puig is the talk of baseball, and his instant fame caught the eye of one of America's biggest celebrities.
Rapper, music producer and newly minted agent Jay-Z is interested in representing the 22-year-old outfielder, Yahoo! Sports reported Wednesday. The player and the mogul met in mid-June at a New York club owned by Jay-Z, and Puig emerged interested in the possibilities Roc Nation Sports could offer him in terms of lifestyle and marketing, according to the report.
Roc Nation Sports already has a client stable that includes New York Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano as well as basketball stars Kevin Durant and Skylar Diggins and New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith.
The Yahoo! report added that Jay-Z also has interest in signing Oakland A's slugger Yoenis Cespedes, who, like Puig, is a native of Cuba.
Through his first 34 major league games, Puig was batting .407 with eight homers and 19 RBIs. He is on the Internet ballot that will determine the final player on the National League All-Star roster, but he currently trails Atlanta Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman in the voting.
