Milwaukee Brewers second baseman Rickie Weeks will miss the remainder of the season because of a hamstring injury, MLB.com reported Friday.
Weeks was placed on the 15-day disabled list Thursday after he was injured running to first base on Wednesday. The hamstring strain will require surgery, according to MLB.com.
Weeks, 30, was batting .209 this season with 10 home runs and 24 RBIs in 104 games.
Scooter Gennett will take over at second while Weeks recovers. Gennett was hitting .280 with three homers and 22 RBIs in 79 games for Triple-A Nashville this season. He also has played in 22 games for the Brewers and has a .231 average with one homer and five RBIs in 52 at-bats.
The injury-plagued Brewers are now missing Aramis Ramirez (knee), Corey Hart (knee), Mat Gamel (knee), Taylor Greene (hip) and Ryan Braun (suspension)
