Medical officials had recommended to New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul that he not play again this season because of a shoulder injury, ESPN reported Friday.
A source said Pierre-Paul is "likely" to follow the doctors' advice, according to the report, although nothing official has been announced.
Pierre-Paul suffered the injury against the Oakland Raiders on Nov. 10. He played in the next two games, although his time on the field was limited in the most recent game against Dallas.
On Thursday, when asked about his status for Sunday's game against the Seattle Seahawks, Pierre-Paul said, "I don't know yet."
Pierre-Paul has just two sacks this year. In 2011, he had 16.5.
The Giants are 5-8.
