San Diego Chargers outside linebacker Dwight Freeney has torn quadriceps, which could result in him going on injured reserve, NFL.com reported Monday.
The team has not confirmed the severity of the injury. Freeney left in the second quarter of Sunday's 30-21 victory over the Dallas Cowboys.
NFL.com cited two sources informed of the injury who believe it is long-term and that the team is deciding whether or not to place Freeney on the season-ending IR.
After Freeney got hurt, he stayed on the field with trainers for several minutes before heading to the locker room.
Freeney came into the game leading the Chargers in quarterback hurries and hits. The team signed the pass rusher in May after he spent 11 seasons with the Indianapolis Colts.
Jarret Johnson and Larry English will be expected to step up in Freeney's absence.
