The Los Angeles Dodgers hope to re-sign infielder Michael Young and make him their everyday third baseman next season, according to ESPN.
The Dodgers have a significant hole at third base as they are expected to lose Juan Uribe to free agency. The club acquired the versatile Young from the Philadelphia Phillies in late August.
Young had a batting line of .279/.335/.395 in 147 games combined with Philadelphia and Los Angeles this year.
The 37-year-old's defense has been in decline since 2009 so he would serve as a short-term solution if they lose Uribe.
If the Dodgers decide to retain Young but not start him, he provides a solid right-handed bat off the bench.
