Tight end John Phillips and the San Diego Chargers reached agreement on a three-year contract Tuesday, according to ESPN.
Phillips was primarily a blocker in his four seasons with the Dallas Cowboys while playing on a team with prolific pass-catching tight end Jason Witten.
Drafted in the sixth round in 2009, Phillips missed the 2010 season after suffering a knee injury. He leaves Dallas with 30 career receptions for 218 yards and two touchdowns.
The addition of Phillips fills a hole for the Chargers at tight end after the release of 11-year veteran Randy McMichael earlier in the day.
