Dwight Howard's path to the Los Angeles Lakers may wind through Cleveland.
The Cavaliers may have emerged as the latest facilitator in a potential trade that would send the Orlando Magic center with the Los Angeles Lakers, sources told Wednesday.
The Houston Rockets are also rumored to be in the mix as a third party to help make a trade work.
A source told that the Cavs would get Howard for multiple draft picks and power forward Anderson Varejao. The Lakers would then receive Howard for Andrew Bynum. Orlando would get Varejao and draft picks. The source cautioned that this was in the early stages.
The Lakers have spoken with the Rockets and Cavaliers in their attempt to land Howard, because both those teams have interest in landing Bynum, and have the salary-cap room to take on larger salaries than they ship out in a deal.
One complicating factor in any potential deal, according to sources, is whether Bynum and Howard sign extensions with their next team.
