Offensive tackle Andre Smith tested the free-agent waters this spring and found no takers. So instead of finding greener pastures with another team, he's staying with the Cincinnati Bengals, ESPN reported Friday night.
Smith, 26, will re-sign with Cincinnati, where he has played since being drafted out of Alabama in 2009. No terms of his new deal were immediately available.
After playing in all 16 regular-season games last season, Smith improved his stock with his solid offensive-line play and was considered one of the top free agents this year. The Bengals decided to let the four-year pro explore what was out there rather than re-resign him right away and the gamble appeared to pay off.
There were several reports going into the NFL Draft on Thursday night that no deal was imminent with Smith. But now the 6-foot-4, 335-pound Smith apparently will return at right tackle next season on a Bengals offensive line that will include Andrew Whitworth, Clint Boling, Kevin Zeitler and Kyle Cook.
