The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have acquired offensive tackle Gabe Carimi from the Chicago Bears in exchange for a 2014 sixth-round draft pick, the Buccaneers announced Monday.
The 6-7, 316-pound Carimi, a first-round draft pick in 2011 who started 14 games for the Bears last season, decided to train on his own in Arizona and not attend the Bears' organized team activities.
He was planning to attend the Bears' mandatory minicamp this week and had arrived in Chicago on Friday, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
Carimi started games at both tackle and guard last season, but he was still slowed by a dislocated right knee cap he suffered in 2011 that required multiple surgeries.
The Bucs also waived tackle Nick Speller.
