Report: Arkansas RB Rawleigh Williams to meet with doctors, Bielema, about future
Arkansas running back Rawleigh Williams is reportedly set to meet with Razorbacks coach Bret Bielema and doctors regarding his football future after a scary incident in Saturday’s spring game.
Williams, who led the team in rushing in 2016, was carted off the field on Saturday after he suffered what the team initially termed a “stinger.” Williams collided with defensive end McTelvin Agim on a running play and Agim said, via the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, the running back said he couldn’t move after he fell to the ground.
Williams suffered a nasty neck injury in 2015 after his face mask got torqued rapidly by an Auburn defender attempting to make a tackle. According to the Democrat-Gazette, he’s going to meet with Bielema and doctors this week and an announcement regarding 2017 and beyond could be made the following week.
Bielema initially said what happened to Williams on Saturday was unrelated to his previous neck injury. Brian Williams, Rawleigh’s brother and a high school recruit, was asked about Rawleigh by SEC Country.
“We’re taking it day by day,” Brian responded. “It’s a tough situation, but we’re getting better. Just, pray for us. Keep us in your prayers.”
Williams rushed 245 times for 1,360 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2016. He also had 15 catches for 22 yards and a score. Running back Devwah Whaley was Arkansas’ second-leading rusher in 2016 with 110 carries for 602 yards as a freshman.
