San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree is being investigated regarding an alleged sexual assault, the San Francisco Police Department said Friday evening, multiple media outlets reported.
The alleged incident took place at a San Francisco hotel early Sunday morning, several hours after the 49ers' 45-31 victory over the Green Bay Packers.
"We are aware of the allegation against Michael and understand that he has fully cooperated with authorities," 49ers general manager Trent Baalke said in a statement Friday night. "The 49ers take such matters very seriously. We will have no further comment at this time as the legal process is ongoing. Additional requests for comment should be directed to Michael's attorney."
According to the Comcast SportsNet Bay Area, Crabtree left with the 49ers when they traveled to Atlanta, where they will face the Falcons on Sunday in the NFC Championship Game.
However, the Bay Area News Group reported that Crabtree was not seen with the team as it arrived at its hotel in Atlanta.
San Francisco Police said Crabtree was interviewed with his lawyer present and has cooperated in this investigation, according to CSNBA report. He has not been arrested and has said he will make himself available to investigators for future questions.
