Report: 49ers' Candlestick Park to be demolished after next season
Candlestick Park, which is home to the San Francisco 49ers, reportedly will be demolished after next season.
The stadium, which was also the home stadium for the San Francisco Giants baseball team from 1960 to 1999 and was where the Beatles played their last concert, will host 49ers home games next season before the team moves into its new stadium in Santa Clara, which is scheduled to be ready for the 2014 season.
Phillip Matier and Andrew Ross of the San Francisco Chronicle reported Candlestick Park will be blown up shortly after next year's NFL season, perhaps just weeks after the final game, to make way for a shopping center. A 30-second implosion will be used to demolish the 69,000-seat stadium.
