Jogi Löw calls up only four Bayern Munich players for Germany's upcoming international slate
It's strange for a list of Bayern Munich players called up for the German national team be limited to four players. Yet that's exactly what we see as Joachin Löw has only called up Manuel Neuer, Jerome Boateng, Thomas Müller, and Mario Götze for their early September international friendlies.
Though even more strange is not writing Philipp Lahm's name in that list. His retirement and the fact that barring earth shattering catastrophe we're never going to see him in a German national team trikot again is certainly going to take some getting used to. It's an empty sort of a feeling.
Ultimately, the roster is a little disappointing from Löw in that after winning a World Cup he hasn't given his players the opportunity to take a week off, or brought in many youth international or fringe players looking for players who can potentially contribute; the likes of a Lewis Holtby, Sebastian Rode, Max Kruse, or Bernd Leno. The World Cup rematch against Argentina may be a contributing factor to that decision though. While it's nothing more than sentiment to attach meaning to the match, you can bet the eyes of the world will be looking intently at the repeat of a World Cup final that was decided in the 113th minute just 45 days ago.
The German national team will square off against Argentina on September 3rd before facing Scotland on the 7th.
